Workshop On Asexualities 06./07.12 2025
Laurin Tirpitz organized, with the help of Ela Przybyło, the academic-activist workshop “On Asexualities: Cross-Disciplinary Perspectives”. This Workshop took place on December 6 and 7, 2025, at Freie Universität Berlin. With 75 participants, the workshop made an important contribution to building a network among A*spec activists and academics.

The workshop is deeply intertwined with the emergence of the Aro/Ace Research Network Leeds. The idea for this Workshop existed before Laurin Tirpitz knew about Kristin Käupers plan to build the Aro/Ace Research Network. During the organization of this workshop, Laurin and Kristin learnt about each others projects. This led to Laurin being involved in the Aro/Ace Research Network from the start, inviting many of the speakers into the Network as well. Kristin in turn became involved in the workshop by presenting the Network during it. The Workshop took place two months after the Aro/Ace Research Network Leeds was founded. This presented a lot within the Network with an opportunity to meet in person. While the Workshop thus wasn’t technically organized by the Aro/Ace Research Network itself, the Workshop was certainly influenced by the emergence of the Aro/Ace Research Network Leeds – as quite a few participants and speakers were part of the Network already when the Workshop happened.
Furthermore, the Workshop fostered community and discourse between german activist groups like AktivistA, ace_arovolution and ACE AROund the Cake with international Asexuality Scholars like Ela Przybyło, Luke Brunning and Yash Gupta.
